《天官赐福》官方英译本初窥以及与原译本的一些比较

2021年年底，七海出版社出版了《天官赐福》的官方英文版，我立刻下载了它的电子版。其实之前这部小说已经有民间的英译本且质量颇高，这一次，我打算进行两个译本的对比阅读，以探究两个译本语言风格差异（注：很遗憾我之前从未阅读过这部小说的原文，对其最初的了解仅来自民间英译本和动画，所以涉及剧情理解，我其实没有发言权）。
首先是开头：
原文；这满天神佛里，有一位著名的三界笑柄。
（旧）；Among the gods of the heavens, there was a famous laughing stock known throughout the three realms.
（官方）Among all the deities of heaven, there was one famous laughingstock throughout the three realms.
在语言上，官方版本显得更简洁些，这在后文中也有体现；
在措辞上，对于“神佛”的表达，官方版用了deities,而旧版用了gods,这两个词意思相近，但是在我看来它们表意的范围还是略有差别的，deity的概念更抽象也更宽泛一些，既可以表示男神，也可以表示女神；而god（注意不是God,在一神教中，God是唯一的）强调的是掌管或代表自然界特定领域的灵，强调的是职能神，如果要表示女神的话，我们要明确的用goddess.按照我对这本小说有限的理解，书中的神佛有男有女，从这个角度讲用deity可能更合适；但是好像这位作者好像更强调神的职能属性，这本小说中的神灵看起来更像《搜神记》或是《封神演义》中的神仙，而《封神演义》的英译本译名就是Creation of the gods。所以不管这里使用deity还是god都是有其考虑的。

然后我们截取其中对“上元佳节，神武大街”的描写，会发现两版翻译的侧重是不一样的：
（旧）：Offering to the Gods day, Martial God Main Street
（官方）：The wondrous Shangyuan Festival, upon the Grand Avenue of Divine Might
旧版的译法很聪明，将难以完全逐字翻译的“上元节”用前文中提到的“祭天悦神的日子”替代，而“神武大街”则逐字翻译。神（god）武（martial）大（main）街（street）
新版中，译者老实的将上元节译为Shangyuan Festival, 而“神武大街”中的大街，则用了avenue，这个译得好，许多重要的主干道都是avenue,就像美国的第五大道（Fifth Avenue）,而“神武”则被译作divine might, 这也很贴切，我们在英文版圣经中常能看到mighty这个词，mighty常用来形容某种强大的力量，而这个力量与divine结合，更能体现其庄重和神性。
这里可以发现旧版的翻译偏直译，会选择逐字翻译，在个别地方会有生硬之弊，因而译者常寻求词语替换；新版翻译会更圆润。

在描写到上元节神武大街上的盛况时，我们可以再次发现新版的语言之简练，与原文更贴合
原文：少女们雪白的双手挥洒漫天落英缤纷，不知人与花孰更娇美
（旧）Young girls danced gracefully so their snow-white hands scattered flower petals like rain, filling the sky as far as the eye could see. It made people question whether the dancing maidens were more beautiful or the flowers itself.
（新）….while maidens danced elegantly, their fair hands scattering flowers——and who could say whether the flowers or the maidens were more beautiful.
让我们再来看一个名场面的描写，就是谢怜接住花城的那个场景：

人们只来得及看见一道飞鸟般的白影逆空而上，太子便已抱着那名小儿安然落地。黄金面具坠落，露出了面具后那张年轻俊美的脸庞。
（旧版）The people only had enough time to glimpse a bird-like, white figure flit through the empty sky before the Crown Prince landed safely with the young child. His golden mask had fallen off, revealing the young and handsome face previously hidden behind it.
（新版）The people only saw a glimpse of a white silhouette that flew like a soaring bird before the crown prince landed with that small child in his arms. The golden mask fell, revealing the young, handsome face behind it.

总之，旧版和新版的翻译都挺好的，我过去阅读这部小说依靠的也是旧版译本，现在有了官方英译本，自然也是开兴的事。
