司汤达的《红与黑》，写的是法国青年于连的故事。于连是一个有才华，有野心，有自尊，也有良心的人。许多评价把于连说成是一味向上爬的野心家。但我个人而言，我觉得他们都忽略了一点，就是于连良心的一面。或者说忽略了站在故事背后的作者进行的精神思考。
于连确实是野心家。于连的野心膨胀过程是故事最表面也是最直接的线索。在德。雷纳尔放假，于连想：“我一定要在这个女人身上得手，”“那样如果有一天我发迹了，有人指责我赶过家庭教师这样下等的职业，我就可以告诉他，是爱情把我抛到这个职位上的。”但是于连也像一个哲学家，他思考人生，思考巴黎，在他的脑中挥之不去的是当像拿破仑般的英雄。
