OK, here's what I've got: There are 2 Outer Gods trying to invade Earth right now (as we saw, there are more, but there are two that are really trying to get in). These are the Mother Tree of Desire, and the Mother Goddess of Depravity. The Tree of Desire controls the Chained(mutant) pathway (and assumably the neighboring pathways, though I'm not sure what they are), and through this connection was able to corrupt the Chained God (who was actually only a sequence one). Using him as a proxy, she is able to exert more influence over the Earth, and took control of the Rose School of Thought. Hence why there was the sudden departure from temperance towards, well, desire. The second Outer God is the Mother Goddess of Depravity. The Goddess of Depravity is the one on the moon, who is posing as the Primordial Moon (though I guess she's not wrong about that). I assume she controls the Moon (vampire/apothecary) pathway, but the existence of Lilith makes that a bit iffy. Anyway, she doesn't have her own organization (possibly because of the existence of the vampire and the Harvest Church), so she has joined forces with the Tree of Desire, and instructed her followers to join the Rose School of Thought. However, the alliance between them is pretty unstable, hence the ostracization of Primordial Moon believers in the School.
