It wasn’t really a choice, was it? She wanted to ask. How can someone return to peaceful everyday life, after knowing that she or he did not actually belong there? She remembered when she first took an airplane to another faraway place, the first time she had seen the brilliant light above the half-transparent, floating clouds. Another part of the world had opened to her, just like that moment when the place broke through the swirling clouds, so easily there was no forewarning at all.
Before that she had just read of these experiences on books, had daydreams about it, but once that was totally real, she could not go back to not knowing it again. The vision of the breathtaking beauty was etched into her memories, just as the past few ‘days’ she had spent with Lydia and Will.
Her vision had widened, and she saw many things she had only read on books before.
There was no going back. So, she repeated, ‘Yes, of course. Of course, I will.’
